Imagine strolling through the streets of a small Alpine village and hearing voices intertwining in different languages: some familiar, others unknown, all full of stories to tell. Welcome to the Premio Ostana, a unique festival where mother tongues, the languages with which we are born and think, come to life through art, music, literature, cinema, and cultural exchange.
More than just a festival, the Premio Ostana is an experience of “convivència”, a meeting place where languages and cultures recognize each other, dialogue, and strengthen one another.
What is the “Premio Ostana” and why is it special?
Founded in 2008, the “Premio Ostana – Scritture in lingua madre” is an event dedicated to the protection and promotion of mother tongues, many of which are at risk of extinction. Every year, eight artists – writers, poets, translators, musicians, and filmmakers – are awarded and gather in Ostana not only to receive recognition but also to share their stories, exchange ideas, and create new connections.
Here, the audience is not passive but participatory. The “Premio Ostana” is not an event to simply listen to: every exchange, every performance, every informal moment – whether it’s a walk through the village or a chat at the table – becomes an opportunity for encounter and mutual enrichment.
Why participate in the “Premio Ostana”?
Art, literature, and music as a universal language – Every language carries a unique worldview, capable of expressing authentic and original thoughts. Languages come alive not only through words but also through song, sound, and images.
The “minjar en convivència” is the heart of the festival – Sitting at the table with writers, musicians, and filmmakers becomes an opportunity to learn about different cultures through dialogue and food.
An experience that leaves a mark – The connections made at the “Premio Ostana” continue even after the event, creating networks of collaboration and friendship among artists, activists, and language and culture enthusiasts.
